Altera Expands Design Services Offering With Certified Design Center Program
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 30, 2001--Altera
Corporation (Nasdaq:ALTR), a leading supplier of programmable logic
devices (PLDs), launched the third component to its design services
strategy today with the unveiling of the Certified Design Center (CDC)
partnership program. As the migration of ASIC designs moves toward
programmable logic, the CDC program brings world-class system-on-chip
(SOC) designers into the world of system-on-a-programmable-chip (SOPC)
applications.
The CDC program provides the thousands of Altera customers looking
to integrate system level designs into programmable logic solutions,
access to the SOC design expertise often required in today's most
complex SOPC applications.
Tality Corporation, the largest global provider of product
development outsourcing, including IP and engineering services to the
communications market, joins Zaiq Technologies, based in North
America, and Barco Silex, El Camino GmbH, Excel Consultants, Plextek,
Reflex Consulting, and Sci-Worx, based in Europe, as founding CDC
members.
The network of SOC ASIC design experts contained in the CDC
program will work in conjunction with Altera's existing Altera
Consultants Alliance Program (ACAP(TM)), which consists of independent
consultants with focused technical expertise. Both of these
partnership programs complement Altera's recent acquisition of
Northwest Logic, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Altera, which
offers system level design services with a team of Altera experts.
``Altera is addressing the increasingly complex engineering
development needs of customers as they adopt an SOPC approach,'' said
Erik Cleage, Altera's senior vice president of marketing. ``The CDC
program is an integral part of Altera's SOPC strategy.''
``By working with Altera to bring our system-level experience to
the SOPC world, we can streamline the path from design through
implementation,'' said Jim Douglas, vice president of worldwide
marketing for Tality Corporation. ``The obvious benefit for our mutual
customers is a reduction in the time it takes to develop and deliver
products to market.''
Along with the ability to serve customers throughout North America
and Europe, CDC partners were chosen by Altera based on their strong
track records in SOC, IP and multi-million gate designs, as well as
their expertise in the areas of embedded software and processor cores.
For example, Tality, Barco-Silex and Sci-Worx are all members of the
ARM Approved Design Center program. Additionally, Altera will provide
CDC partners with in-depth technical training on Altera's entire
portfolio of SOPC product solutions. Thus, Altera CDC partners will
enable SOPC designers to more smoothly deploy Altera's Excalibur(TM)
embedded processor solutions -- which combine logic, memory and a
Nios(TM), ARM® or MIPS® processor core -- in addition to Altera's
catalog of Intellectual Property (IP) cores and APEX(TM), APEX II or
Mercury(TM) devices.
About the Altera Consultants Alliance Program
ACAP is a regional network of over sixty independent design
services companies. Partners in the program are a carefully-selected,
trained, diverse group of design service providers that provide expert
design assistance to users of Altera PLDs. ACAP Consultants provide a
unique combination of segment knowledge and competence in Altera PLDs,
which makes them effective at solving specific problems and
facilitating the urgent time-to-market needs of today's designers.
About Northwest Logic
Northwest Logic, a wholly owned subsidiary headquartered in
Hillsboro, OR, provides system-level design services including IP
integration and customization, full custom designs, and embedded
software. Northwest Logic's engineers combine their system expertise
and knowledge of Altera technology with professional project
management.
